Have the courage to use your own understanding

Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's own understanding without another guidance. This immaturity is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment. - Immanuel Kant

What exactly was born? You may say, the body is born and that is correct. But you miss the crucial point of the body. As the sweetness is the essence of the sugar so is the "I AM" sense the essence of the body. This "I AM" sense, the consciousness, sense of presence, call it whatever you want, is here only as long as the body function. When the body breaks the "I AM" is also gone.

But you have nothing to do with it. What you really are is the Original who senses "I AM". Whatever you sense, hear, see, touch, taste etc, you cannot be that, you are the one who senses it. And this is the case with "I AM" sense too.

Although "I AM" appears with the body, it is universal and the knowledge of your presence is all common, it's expression through the body and mind is individualistic; there, everything is different through imagination, beliefs, opinions, ideas, concepts, theories. All that must be left behind.

This is to be understood, not by "someone" which is just body-mind identity, but it must be experienced in such a manner that the experiencer and the experiencing are one. "I AM" sense is the line between fantasy and reality. This is a mystery to be solved.

Investigate, or take it for granted, you are not the one that is born. The fact is that you exist forever. You are not the one in this world, but the world is in you. You assumed that your body has appeared in the world but the truth is that entire world is inside your sense of "I AM", your consciousness. That contains the whole Universe. Because of your existence, because you know that "you are", you know also that world is.

You have to understand that the knower of "I AM" sense, of this world, is totally apart from it and it has nothing to do with it. Events bring experience, they appear to exist in your "I AM" sense, they come and go, but you just observe them. You are not in any way related to them. You who experience is totally different from the experience. You are totally apart from it. It is up to you to understand the experience and not get involved in it.

Whatever suffering you think you have is based on your wrong concept, your imagination. Whatever takes place in the world is based entirely on thoughts and words. Understand clearly that you have identified yourself with this stream of thoughts and words and then you consider yourself to be guilty of something or you are proud of something whereas everything takes place spontaneously and independently of you.

So long as you don't recognize this, you are bound to take as absolutely certain whatever thoughts tells you. The imagination which is just dream fueled by thoughts will be your reality. When you understand that you are bound only by your own imagination you become free from your thoughts.

To rich enlightenment is to understand that you are apart from this mental concepts, from the sense of presence, from the "I AM". You must understand this while living. Not in words and not by experience but being the experience. Only then you have conquered death.

To recapitulate... First, you are not conscious, you do not know you exist, then your body is born. The sweetness, the nature of the body is this "I AM" sense, the sense of presence, the consciousness. It, by mistake or ignorance, attaches itself to the body, creates individual by constant stream of thoughts and feelings. Stop all that. "You are" is not you but it is forced upon you. Always keep your "identity" separate from "I AM" sense, from that which is doing the work, thinking and talking. You are not that. This is to be firmly kept in mind.

Be careful how you approach the life. The entire life is based on ignorance of "who you really are". The "I AM" sense is a cheat. There is no truth inside the sense of presence. Your body changes all the time, your knowledge continues to change with time and ultimately it grows old. Whatever happens, whatever experience you have, it is all like a dream, it has no substance. And supporting this entire dream, this untruth, is the "I AM" sense, it all began there. The real happiness is to know your existence apart from the sense of presence.
