Retirement is not only an ugly word but in fact it’s a ridiculous concept.
What is retirement anyway?
You work at a job long enough so you eventually get to stop working to enjoy the fruits of your lifetime labor. So you get a party and go home, and then you sit back and watch television waiting for what? For the casket? Yeah, while waiting you are indeed free to do whatever you want.
I noticed that no matter what the government is saying about the economy, which only few understand anyway, around 70% of adults are surviving paycheck to paycheck. People are surviving today and they do not have time to think about tomorrow. They aren't planning to ride the fruits of their lifetime labor anytime soon, they are just trying to pay bills.
I am almost 60 and majority of my friends are my age. I hear them telling me stories about their retirement plans, the expectations of travel, some life on beach, good food, excitement and good times. I see their vision for the future as a pure entertainment, just a wishful thinking.
What excitement can you have at 70?
I write a lot about the power of mind, I like INTENT, a clear and concise command to the universe. I always say - it does not matter if we are worth or not, the universe does not have any other way but to give us what we want. I am for the intent but not for wishful thinking, that is just imagination.
Let's stop dreaming and let's reprogram our beliefs and get real and understand that retirement is not a second chance. Most people living a life waiting for something else to give them a second chance.
There is no the second chance, things go always in the same way as they did before. People seem to be okay with waiting for that next big thing in life rather than just saying the hell with that, and I’m going to take control.
I have taken full responsibility for my own retirement
There will be no retiring for me at all. I have brushed away from my mind the idea that when I retire I will place my butt on the couch and watch news and shows. Fuck that! I am going to work my job all the way until my health permits.
I don't plan to travel anywhere in the future. I have done that a lot. The travels are for people who are afraid to be alone. They are changing places trying to escape themselves.
I have prepared several books I am going to study for the rest of my life. I had more than 400 books about spirituality, religion and philosophy but I got rid of them however I put on the side Nisargadatta Maharaj books written from his visitors at the last days of his life. Those books are so difficult to be understood, they require full concentration and meditation. They are perfect for the old age.
Some of you reading this will say that you’ve never had your own vision for your future, just the one others had for you. If that’s the case, my message for you is to think about yourself for once.
What is that you really want, for the times moving forward?
Once you know that for sure, then do it. Give yourself that second, third, or fourth chance. You owe this to yourself.
