Where did you get this idea?
Yoga is certainly not something you choose to do if you are merely looking for entertainment, or for a social activity. "Fun" is not what comes to mind when you mention yoga.
Anyone who’s done this practice knows that heart starts pumping after completing just the sun salutations at the beginning of the practice and that itself is quite challenging. And anyone who’s ever gone all the way through the standing and sitting sequence up to Navasana (boat pose), half primary, or full primary series of ashtanga yoga understands what effort are needed.
What’s the message yoga practice want to give to the people? Just have fun! Well, maybe that is a reason why ashtanga yoga is not so popular in yoga studios.
It is Monday, today I am going to do my third practice in a row and I feel tired and unmotivated. Next year I will be 60 and this is exactly how old age is closing on me. I must be smarter than I am now, I need to remember certain things.
Ashtanga Yoga Half Primary Practice
Ashtanga practice is not about how hard I work. I should not push anything. It is how effortlessly I practice. It’s not about big poses and strength, but about subtleties of breath and the energy saving.
This practice is not for everybody. Most people do not like it. It is the repetition of the same postures that makes ashtanga yoga so unpopular. People want varieties, freedom of the movement, music, heat etc...
In the ashtanga you maintain counting of breaths with deep inhalation and exhalation, the Ujai breathing and that's it. There is no "connecting your energy to the earth" and "let the light fill your head".
It is actually a hard, boring work.
