What Is Spirituality?

At some point in time you will certainly experience a feeling that there is something greater than the concrete world you live in. Whether this feeling is inspired by sudden change in your circumstances, the awe-inspiring view on the majestic sea, a mystery of death, or the feelings experienced in connecting with others, at that very moment you may start wondering what is this all about.

On other hand, the boring, repeatable, daily life may also cause you to ask yourself - Is this all there is? Anyway, these feelings, moments and experiences form the foundation of spirituality.

The most beautiful aspect of spirituality is that it is experienced differently by everyone.

For some people, spirituality is about a devotion to a religion, to the faith, the believe in God.

Others seek out a more personal connection with their spiritual side by engaging in activities such as yoga, meditation, spending time in nature or creative expression.

Some people are vegetarians, some follow spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Hinduism, Zen etc... and some work for communities rather then for their own benefits.

There is no right or wrong way of spirituality.

Whether you are someone who's devoted your life to consciously follow some spiritual teachings or you're just starting to discover your own way, there are important lessons that can be learned from the path you follow.

My way is just living my life. How can I become more spiritual in my daily, everyday life? More spiritual for me means to be more aware in my daily activities.

How can I make less mistakes and do only things that I want to do. How can I stop being influenced by people or events? To me, to be spiritual is to be in conscious connection with my true nature; to be self-aware. And self-awareness is a process rather than a destination.

So what is my practice now? I simply live my life fully awake... How can I do anything else?

I am conscious and aware of my feeling, I don't get into heated discussions, I don't defend my opinions. I become quickly aware of ever-increasing subtleties of my emotional life.

I try to be awake meaning to be aware of my false personality and the whole makeup of it. And therein lies the lesson. Feeling and emotions inside myself are not actually "inside" but they are "outside" of myself. I am not my emotions. Knowing it I am doing what needs to be done. I see that nothing can trouble me but my own imagination.

I have noticed that most people are working hard but getting nowhere. They think about the past or their future, the thoughts never stop. They simply live life inside their head, so such world, the world of the mind, is illusory. It is based on fleeting and lying memory, completely false imagination. Such world is not real, and yet to the extent that people believe that it is real, they are lost in a world of everyday life and they do not realize it.

For me a good life is simply waking with a smile on my face feeling good - nothing bothers me is my main feeling. Everyone can live like that, so spirituality is the most important work in life. The mind and thoughts make you miserable while being awake makes you the richest person alive.
